A Send Gang Bang at Coopers

August 2, 2012

It’s always fun in the sun when the group sends all over the problems.

Climbers: Max M, Max W, Priscilla, Ben, Art and Pepper
Hyrdation: Talisker 18, Tröegs Perpetual IPA, Dales Pale Ale, Green Flash Le Freak, Schlafly American IPA

While the rest of the group was off doing non-climbing things, Art stole Pepper for the day and met up with the Maxes and headed to Coopers to meet up with Ben and Priscilla who made a stop at Coopers on their way home from other adventures.

After warming up, the group moved to the Tomb Raider boulder where sat Art’s long standing nemesis, Tomb Raider Roof Sit (V7) which he previously got the stand stand back in Oct 2010, but couldn’t manage the top out on the sit since then, although he did make it to the top several times, the sit still defeated him.  Meanwhile, Max M split off from the group and headed to his project, Short Roof (V5,) which he felt is more like a V7. They guys gave it a go far too many times, but didn’t make much progress before starting to stick the top out, but still failing to make the send.

Priscilla showed up with her 2 girls and worked on various warm ups and her project Ship’s Traverse (V3,) but her daughter managed to send Ship’s Mantel (V2). Max M returned from his send train down the hill, having sent Short Roof quickly, and resent it many times afterwards to get it on video from various angles. While the guys were continuing to struggle on Tomb Raider Roof, Ben and Max W decided to move their efforts to Tomb Raider Roof Variation (V5). Eventually, the sun was shining brightly on the top out so, Max M used the slider as a sunshade until the sun moved behind the trees.  That was the moment the send train started, first with Art managing to stick the top out on the sit, then Ben on the stand with Max W finishing the send train gang bang (since it’s more fun than a train.)

With the guys all wrapped up with their projects, although Ben and Max W still want to send TRR Sit, but that will have to wait for next time. They moved on to Tilted Tree area to work on some other outstanding projects.  They first started with Ben’s project, Bitch Be Cool (V4) while Max M worked on Exclamation Point (V5.) Art tried Bitch Be Cool previously, but couldn’t manage a big move out left, but he gave it a few goes, with little progress. Eventually, Ben managed to get that project out of the way and his send encouraged Max W to work on it a bit, before he sent that problem. Max M couldn’t figure out the moves at the top of Exclamation Point, so they moved on to the Snow Globe Area. Ben and Priscilla worked on Roof Problem (V4) while the Maxes worked on Roof Problem Variation (V5) and Art took pictures. Priscilla and Ben continued to work Roof Problem and Ben quickly managed to get his send and said his farewells. The Maxes gave their problem some good goes, but that one will remain a project.

Moving on, the group moved to Shadowboxer which Art was hoping to get, along with the others. Art had heard of Lily’s beta and they being roughly the same size gave Art hope, other than the fact that Lily is a beast. Art was at least able to make the first couple of moves, but his shoulder and reach wouldn’t cooperate.  The Maxes both made good progress on the problem and nearly got their sends but couldn’t make the last moves over the edge.

Art, you silly man, I already got Ships Mantle long ago, it’s the V3, ships traverse that I need to finish. Seeing as I only had 4 hours of sleep after 10 hours of driving it will have to be next time.
