A 2 is just an upside down 5, right?

While Art and Esten were checking out Grayson Highlands and some others opted for the gym, a few of us enjoyed the perfect weather last afternoon at our little local bouldering area, Northwest Branch in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The climbers: Jackie, Eric, Josh, and Devonn

At least according to the grades in this topo, V2s are so beneath us that we can’t figure them out but V5s are totally doable.  Or are we just upside-down dyslexic?

Eric and Jackie met up that afternoon with Josh and Devonn at the Crack Line boulder.  While none of the four boulderers could figure out how to send Crack Line (V2), Eric sent and Jackie resent Fine Heroine Line (V5).  Since they had already been bouldering for a few hours, Josh and Devonn headed home after that boulder and Jackie and Eric moved on to the Chaos Roof Area, where they sent their only V2 of the day, Snowflake.  That was also after some man stood in the trail and made fun of Jackie while she slipped on some leaves with her crashpad on her back, and even commented how he thought it was sooooo funny.  Well dude, I can crush boulders, can you?

Anyways, Eric also sent Mikey Likes It (V5) and Snowflake Traverse (V4) in the Chaos Roof Area, and thought the V5 was much easier than the 4.  Having sent both of them during a previous session, Jackie concentrated on stopping the blood from spewing out of her fingers after an unfortunate slip on Snowflake Traverse.  When the bleeding finally ceased, the two moved on to the Tulip Boulder Area.  There, they both sent Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (what does that mean?) but of course could not send the V2, Scum of the Heel.  Well, at least they didn’t feel like shoving their ankle into a rock to make a big-ish move.  The sky darkened, and the afternoon was over.

Here are some photos.  They’re not as good as Art’s, but does he have a purple camera?  I don’t think so.

Oh! I spent a lot of time on Crackline a few years back. Had some pretty good beta for that one!

Oh, so that’s why you didn’t come out on Sunday. You just didn’t want to give up your beta!

oh man. I think one time I was at crack line with mitch, if i remember correctly. Another time I was there, and mistook crackline for a v6 called konichiwa. I got so excited that I had sent my first v6. After all, it was very very hard to do. There’s no way in heck it’s a V2, so I propose a grade of V-question mark!!
